Statement Of Democratic Congressional Candidate
Sylvia Romo On Tonight’s State Of The Union Address
SAN ANTONIO—Sylvia Romo, Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress from Texas’ 35th Congressional District, Tuesday night released the following statement on President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address:
“Tonight, President Obama said that the defining issue of our time is how we keep alive the promise of the American Dream—that if you work hard, you can earn enough to raise a family, own a home, send your children to college, and save for retirement.
I could not agree more.
Today, the American Dream is under assault. American jobs are being shipped overseas, the cost of higher education is skyrocketing and thousands of families are still facing foreclosure.
I applaud the President for pledging to take strong action to help end the foreclosure crisis, which I have witnessed first-hand as Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector. I am pleased with his pledge to cut red-tape to help much needed infrastructure projects move forward. I am pleased with the President’s decision to continue taking a strong stand on reforming our tax code to help stop outsourcing our jobs.
The President has said he will ‘fight obstruction with action.’ I look forward to that fight in Congress.”
